ENCINO, Calif. – A suspect, identified as 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, has been arrested for double homicide after Robin Kaye, a longtime “American Idol” music supervisor, and her husband were found murdered inside their Los Angeles mansion on Monday, according to a press release from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Kaye and husband Thomas Deluca were found dead inside their home after officers responded to a call around 2:30 p.m. on July 14 for a welfare check in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue in Encino. Both victims were 70.
It is believed the murders may have occurred on July 10 after the investigation revealed the LAPD had received two calls that day reporting a possible burglary suspect at the house around 4 p.m., according to police.
“So what we have right now, preliminarily, is that officers did respond to the scene,” LAPD Lt. Guy Golan told Fox News Digital of the calls on July 10.

He continued, “The house is fortified. It has seven, eight-foot-high walls with metal spikes that are welded onto the tips of the walls there. The vehicle gate was closed, also spiked. They had no means of entering via gate code like they did on the date of the welfare check.”
“They did request a flyover by our airship, which did happen. There were no signs of forced entry during this flyover. And again, that the suspect entered the property without force and entry. So there were no signs of burglary. And regarding what evidence there was in the front porch, it was not visible by air due to the foyer having a kind of a cover over it there at the front of the house. So the airship was not able to see what the officers observed during the welfare check.”
On Monday, LAPD officers responded after a friend of the victims called for a welfare check, Golan said during a press conference on Tuesday. The friend became worried after she had not heard from the victims for several days. The officers met the friend at the home and were able to gain access with a key code that she had to the vehicle gate in front of the house.

Officers saw signs of trouble outside and broke a window to enter the home where they discovered that the couple had been shot to death. Golan said that Kaye and Deluca were “ruthlessly shot multiple times” and sustained multiple gunshot wounds “throughout their upper bodies.”
Kaye was found dead in the pantry while Deluca’s body was found in a bathroom, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Investigators believe that the suspect scaled a fence to gain access to the residence and was able to enter through an unlocked door. Golan said that they believe the suspect was inside the house for about 30 minutes when the victims returned home and a violent struggle took place. Kaye and Deluca died of their injuries and the suspect fled on foot.

Authorities were able to identify Boodarian from surveillance video that was taken outside the home in addition to other evidence at the scene. Golan confirmed that there was no interior surveillance footage and the murder scene was contained inside the house.
Boodarian was arrested at his home in Encino without incident, and police are investigating whether he was involved in the previous service calls, Golan said. Detectives are attempting to establish whether Boodarian had any connection to Kaye and Deluca.
According to Golan, the motive is currently unknown, but the homicides could have been the result of a random attack. Golan said that the house was not ransacked, so the motive might not have been theft, though he cautioned that the investigation was preliminary. The murder weapon has not yet been found, though authorities believe it is a handgun.

Golan confirmed that the suspect has a criminal history but would not provide further details. He said that authorities were unaware of an affiliation between Boodarian and any burglary ring.
The case is being handled by the Valley Bureau Homicide Division.

After news of Kaye and Deluca’s deaths broke, an “American Idol” spokesperson shared a statement with Fox News Digital.
“We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing,” the representative said. “Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
During an interview with Fox News Digital, Mauro Quintero, who serviced the couple’s pool every week, recalled having a conversation with Deluca about another attempted break-in, which he said occurred about a month and a half ago.
“Tom told me that somebody tried to break in, and the dog, he woke up and barked,” Quintero said. “So they got up, and I guess they turned the lights on, and the people run away.”

Quintero said that Deluca didn’t tell him how many people were involved with the attempted break-in but mentioned that the intruders were masked. Deluca told him that they were trying to open the door when they were interrupted.

“At that point [Deluca] put something on the wall, so the people don’t jump in anymore. I guess he was trying to see if that will save him from another break-in. But I never expect that they got murdered like this.”

Guy Cohen from SecureIT Homes told Fox News Digital that the couple contacted the home security company after an attempted break-in.
“They were looking for solutions to help prevent future burglaries,” Cohen said. “And we came over and provided them the solutions that we have and options to help protect their home and their family. And unfortunately, we couldn’t get to them in time. They were just not ready to move forward at the time. And this could have been all prevented.”

While speaking with Fox News Digital, Cohen shared the original estimate that the company provided the couple after visiting the house and explained the options that had been presented to them at the time.

“When we look at a home like this — this is a big property — we like to deploy an early detection system such as infrared beams or a monitored camera system that would help detect and deter and get people off the property before they even touch the house,” he said. “That was option one. Option two was to reinforce the windows to make them unbreakable. And then the last thing would be a safe room, so if the burglar gets through all the layers of defense, you have a fallback space to go to.”
Cohen said that he met with both Kaye and Deluca, who he described as a “very cordial, nice couple.”
“Obviously, they were scared at the time they had a burglary, and they were looking for solutions,” he said. “We’re very sad to hear about this senseless situation, and we wish we could have gotten to them sooner.”
