CNN  —  Disney fans probably remember the scene in the classic 1961 film “101 Dalmatians” in which the Dalmatian Pongo sits by a window, watching other dogs and their owners walk by outside. Each dog that goes past looks uncannily like its owner. Dogs who resemble their human owners has been observed in research, too. In one study, published in 2015, women with long hair tended to prefer dogs with similarly long ears, and women with short hairstyles preferred prick-eared dogs. Experts say this psychological phenomenon is a result of us humans preferring pets, people or even objects that resemble…

CNN  —  Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said calls for negotiations by “bully states” are aimed at dominating others, not resolving issues, after US President Donald Trump urged him to reach a nuclear deal. Trump told Fox News this week that he had written a letter to Khamenei, adding “there are two ways Iran can be handled: militarily, or you make a deal. I would prefer to make a deal, because I’m not looking to hurt Iran.” “I said, ‘I hope you’re going to negotiate, because it’s going to be a lot better for Iran,’ and I think…

Editor’s Note:This analysis was originally published in CNN’s Meanwhile in America newsletter. Read past issues and subscribe here. JD Vance is a different kind of vice president. He’s not the Machiavellian master of Washington who works in the shadows – like Dick Cheney. Neither is he the safe pair of foreign policy hands – like a George H.W. Bush or Joe Biden. The youthful Vance seems instead to have fashioned himself as the personification of his boss Donald Trump’s most extreme social media posts. His provocation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office last week ignited a diplomatic…

The shortfall has forced many to work “six days a week, 10 hours a day – for years at a time,” union President Nick Daniels testified at a House subcommittee hearing this week. The US needs more than 3,000…

CNN  —  For the first time since his hospitalization around three weeks ago, Pope Francis is showing a good response to treatment, a Vatican source told CNN. This follows a statement from the Vatican press office on Saturday that described “a good response to therapy” and a “gradual, slight improvement” since his episodes of acute respiratory failure on Monday. The Vatican source said that this improvement was due to the “gas exchange” in the lungs and the oxygenation of the blood. However, the risk remains of another breathing crisis remains and the prognosis is still reserved, the source emphasized. The…
