Paris CNN  —  A Paris court has convicted far-right figurehead and 2027 presidential frontrunner Marine Le Pen of embezzlement and banned her from running for political office. The ban will come into effect immediately, but the court has not yet announced how long it will last. If it is longer than two years, Le Pen’s fourth attempt to win the French presidency would again end in failure. The court’s president, Bénédicte de Perthuis, said Le Pen’s actions amounted to a “serious and lasting attack on the rules of democratic life in Europe, but especially in France.” Le Pen left the…

CNN  —  In a Fox News segment last year on America’s declining birth rate, former congressman Sean Duffy joked about how he would “lose count” of his nine kids, and urged viewers to follow his lead in having more children. “If you look at what’s good for country and society, it’s to reproduce, to have kids,” Duffy declared. “That shows that you’re healthy, you’re strong, and you’re patriotic.” Now, in his new position in President Donald Trump’s cabinet, Duffy is writing that philosophy into an unlikely area of federal policy: transportation funding. The day after he was sworn in as…

The Republican state delegate had been witnessing “the adverse effects that synthetic dyes were having on my son’s behavior, and the improvement of focus and attention” when he removed foods with the dyes from his son’s diet, Burkhammer told CNN via email. Inspired by this experience, he worked with the West Virginia Legislature last month to…

CNN  —  The Supreme Court will hear arguments Monday over whether states may require religiously affiliated groups like Catholic Charities to pay unemployment taxes in a case critics say could put more than 1 million US workers at risk of losing benefits. In the first religion-centered appeal the 6-3 conservative Supreme Court has heard in nearly two years, the Catholic Charities Bureau and four affiliate organizations say Wisconsin violated the First Amendment’s religious protections by denying exemptions from the taxes. Conservative justices in recent years have blurred the line that once clearly separated church from state. They have done so…

Apologizing for the “great inconvenience and concern caused,” Sukiya said in a Saturday statement that most of…

CNN  —  The mopane worm – colorful, hairy and nutritious – has many things going for it, but its name is not one of them. Native to woodlands in southern Africa, it is in fact a caterpillar that’s widely eaten in rural areas; and being high in protein and low in fat, it is being pitched as a superfood to overseas markets. Based in the Angolan capital of Luanda, on Africa’s southwest coast, FoodCare is a dried food manufacturer that processes and packages a range of 25 homegrown foods, including cassava, mushrooms, various fufu (pounded starchy meals) and mopane worms,…

Trump wants to annex the territory, claiming it’s needed for national security purposes. “President Trump says that the United States ‘will get Greenland.’ Let me be clear: The United States will not get it. We do not belong to anyone else. We decide our own future,” Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a Facebook post.…
