Belgrade AP  —  Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has cut short a visit to the United States and returned to Serbia after feeling sudden chest pain apparently caused by high blood pressure, doctors said on Saturday. Vucic, 55, suddenly fell ill during a meeting in the US on Friday and decided to return home against the advice of US doctors, said cardiologist Dragan Dincic, from Belgrade’s Military Hospital, where Vucic was treated upon arrival. Dincic said Vucic took additional therapy after the incident and was now in “stable and satisfactory condition.” Dincic added that Vucic won’t be hospitalized but “cannot be…

CNN  —  Less than two months ago, when the Trump administration turned off the Voice of America’s networks and websites, Kari Lake, a fierce loyalist to President Donald Trump, said the agency is “unsalvageable.” Now, Lake is working on salvaging it, and VOA is about to come back online. “We look forward to working with you all,” Lake wrote in a Friday night memo to the staffers she sidelined back in March. Why the sudden change? A series of federal court rulings against the Trump administration’s silencing of US-funded international broadcasters. About 1,400 VOA employees and contractors at VOA and…

Rome CNN  —  The pontificate of Pope Francis profoundly shook up the Catholic Church. His restless 12-year-papacy, with its focus on a “poor church for the poor,” called on Catholicism to leave its comfort zone and pitch its tent among the poorest communities. Francis opened discussions on topics that were once viewed off limits, such as the role of women. He welcomed LGBTQ Catholics as “children of God” and opened the door for remarried divorcees to receive communion. He also generated attention with his strong critiques of economic injustice and calls to protect the environment. Throughout his papacy, however, Francis…

CNN  —  So much of what the public knows about President Trump’s chaotic governance stems from robust reporting, including leaks from anonymous sources in the government. But Trump and his aides are now actively trying to impede this reporting and intimidate news outlets, creating a bleak backdrop to the UN’s recognition of Saturday as World Press Freedom Day. The chilling effects, while hard to measure, are evident after Trump’s first 100 days in office, according to press freedom groups like the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders. “Trump’s second term as president has brought a troubling deterioration in…

It’s taken weeks to reach this man, verify his identity, and persuade him to talk with us. Our contact on the ground…

CNN  —  US Vice President JD Vance said the war in Ukraine is “not going to end any time soon,” just hours after Washington and Kyiv signed a key minerals agreement that has peace in Ukraine among its goals. Speaking to Fox News on Thursday, Vance poured some cold water on earlier statements from the White House, while also claiming that US President Donald Trump managed to secure “a really big breakthrough” in the peace process. “It’s going to be up to them (Ukraine and Russia) to come to an agreement and stop this brutal, brutal conflict. It’s not going…

CNN  —  Programming note: Listen to the first episode of Persuadable, a new podcast hosted by Donie O’Sullivan here. “How can you talk to those crazy people?” I get asked that question a lot. Over the last few years, I’ve spoken to hundreds — possibly thousands — of Americans whose lives have become consumed by conspiracy theories. It’s easy, perhaps natural, for us to want to label them all as “crazy.” But it’s not true. The overwhelming majority of people I have spoken to are highly productive members of society. They are moms, dads, business owners — they’re your next-door…

CNN  —  Warren Buffett has finally shared what he thinks about tariffs. The famed investor and CEO of multinational conglomerate holding company Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) on Saturday talked about America’s trade wars, calling them a “big mistake” at the firm’s annual shareholding meeting at CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. “Trade should not be a weapon,” said Buffett. He also said that “trade could be an act of war.” “The United States won. I mean, we have become an incredibly important country, starting from nothing 250 years ago, there’s nothing that anything like it,” Buffett said. Buffett drew applause when…
