CNN  —  Americans have grown accustomed to dramatic shifts in policy each time control of the White House changes between parties. But across a wide range of domestic and foreign policy issues, President Donald Trump is now pursuing structural changes to the federal government that could prove very difficult for the next Democratic president to undo. On many fronts, Trump is seeking not just to reduce spending or to roll back regulation, but to hollow out the federal government’s institutional capacity to influence events both domestically and internationally. Far more aggressively than in his first term, Trump is unraveling many…

CNN  —  Despite the White House’s repeated attacks on federal Judge James Boasberg, the Trump administration remains confident it will prevail in ongoing litigation about the president’s use of executive power. Even before President Donald Trump retook office, his advisers expected that his executive orders and other policy moves would face immediate legal challenges. It was expected that those challenges would be filed in districts that were friendly to challengers and would result in initial losses for the administration. That has been the case. Over 160 lawsuits have been filed against various administration policies, Attorney General Pam Bondi said Wednesday…

The Trump administration has paused $175 million in federal funding to the University of Pennsylvania, the president’s alma mater, claiming it has violated an executive order barring transgender women from competing in women’s sports, a White House official told CNN. In a post on X, the Trump administration’s Rapid Response team noted the funding had been paused, while posting a Fox Business segment, and writing, “Promises made, promises kept.” Fox Business first reported the funding pause. The administration’s executive order states that all executive departments and agencies “shall review grants to educational programs and, where appropriate, rescind funding to programs…

New York CNN  —  After a dramatic start to the year, the crypto industry is settling into a new reality — one in which the White House is laying out the red carpet and promising an unprecedented level of support. Crypto, a roughly 15-year-old industry that’s largely operated on the fringes of finance, is at a crossroads. For years, it has blamed a hostile regulatory environment for not allowing it to unleash its supposedly revolutionary technology on Americans.…

CNN  —  A federal judge in New York ordered the case of Columbia University graduate and Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil be transferred from New York to New Jersey where his lawyers will continue their legal efforts for his release. In an opinion issued Wednesday, federal district court Judge Jesse Furman sided with the Trump administration, which argued New York lacked jurisdiction in the case because Khalil was in detention in New Jersey at the time his attorneys filed a motion challenging his arrest. Khalil was arrested by immigration officers nearly two weeks ago outside of his apartment on the campus…

London CNN  —  For the mayor of London, it’s clear that the rush of Americans applying for British citizenship is connected to the return of Donald Trump to the White House. Sadiq Khan has told CNN in an exclusive interview that there is “clearly a link between (that and) the results in the elections in November” in the United States. Americans applied for British citizenship in record numbers last year, according to Britain’s Home Office, with a big spike in applications logged during the final quarter — a period coinciding with Trump’s reelection. Speaking at the MIPIM real estate conference…

CNN  —  For those of us who approach things by the Goldilocks Principle (not too little, not too much), spring equinox is practically perfect. Along with the fall equinox, this is when we get that glorious balance of daytime and nighttime all over the world — from the steamy equator to the frigid poles — with just about 12 hours of each. No one goes through the extremes like you see with the winter solstice or summer solstice. In 2025, the spring equinox will arrive exactly at 9:01 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on Thursday, March 20, according to EarthSky. Here’s…

Eau Claire, Wisconsin CNN  —  Backstage in a dressing room drinking a can of diet Mountain Dew as 900 people filled a theater in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Tuesday night, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said he wouldn’t be there if not for “the void.” The void is deep for Walz, who only in the last few weeks has begun to publicly address his and Kamala Harris’ 2024 loss with what he called “the most unsatisfying ‘I Told You So’ tour in the history of politics.” He says too many Democratic leaders are still not truly grappling with how bad things are politically for them,…

New York CNN  —  Larry Taunton was in bed around 1 a.m. on Sunday in his Alabama home when he noticed his dog, Ranger, getting worked up. “His ears were up and moving like satellite dishes,” Taunton told CNN in an interview. He noticed a flicker of light, and then the German Shepherd headed toward the front door. Taunton grabbed his gun and followed, leaving the lights off. When he got to the kitchen, all he could see in the darkness was a figure in body armor holding a semi-automatic rifle trying to open his door. “I’m thinking, if that…
