Relive the SpaceX Starship flight test as it happened. CNN  —  A SpaceX Starship spacecraft, the upper portion of the most powerful launch system ever built, exploded during its eighth test flight Thursday, disrupting air traffic and marking the second consecutive failure for the vehicle this year. The uncrewed Starship mission lifted off at 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET) from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in South Texas, with the spacecraft riding atop a 232-foot-tall (71-meter-tall) Super Heavy rocket booster. After about 2 ½ minutes of firing, the Super Heavy booster separated as planned from the Starship’s upper stage, setting itself…

CNN  —  A day after offering Canada a one-month reprieve on punishing, virtually across-the-board 25% tariffs, President Donald Trump has threatened new tariffs as soon as Friday on Canadian lumber and dairy products. It’s yet another twist in a serpentine trade policy that seems to shift on an hourly basis. “Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber and on dairy products,” Trump said in an Oval Office address Friday, citing Canada’s roughly 250% tariff on US dairy exports to the country. Trump said America would match those tariffs dollar-for-dollar. “We may do it as early as today,…

Washington CNN  —  America is feeling uneasy about the Trump administration’s rapid-fire trade policy changes, but Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Friday he’s not worried. “Despite elevated levels of uncertainty, the US economy continues to be in a good place,” Powell said at an event hosted by the University of Chicago. “Sentiment readings have not been a good predictor of consumption growth in recent years.” “We do not need to be in a hurry, and are well positioned to wait for greater clarity,” he said. The Trump administration’s whipsawing on trade policy has sowed uncertainty for America’s decision makers,…
