Kyiv, Ukraine CNN — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said his Oval Office meeting last week with US President Donald Trump “did not go the way it was supposed to,” describing the fiery meeting as “regrettable” and noting that Ukraine is ready to negotiate about an end to the conflict. “I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace,” Zelensky said on X, addressing his remarkable sit-down with Trump directly. Trump and Vice President JD Vance berated Zelensky during the meeting, angrily accusing him of “gambling with World War Three” and telling him: “Your country is in big trouble.” “Our…
CNN — Serbia’s parliament descended into chaos on Tuesday as opposition lawmakers threw smoke grenades and tear gas inside the chamber to protest against the government and support demonstrating students. With dozens of lawmakers gathered in the chamber, opposition MPs lit flares and tossed smoke grenades and eggs, while others leapt from their seats to brawl with security guards. As the room filled with smoke, some unrolled a banner reading: “Serbia rises up to bring down the regime.” Three members of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), including a pregnant woman, were injured in the melee, with one suffering a…
CNN — Chief Justice John Roberts first arrived at the Supreme Court in 1980, as a law clerk to then-Associate Justice William Rehnquist, for what would be a formative year in his judicial calling. The two men were destined for a position that only 17 jurists in American history have held. Rehnquist became chief justice in 1986, and Roberts succeeded him when he died in 2005. As the now-public papers in Rehnquist’s archive demonstrate, Roberts witnessed his mentor moving strategically behind the scenes. Rehnquist weakened liberal precedents where he could and planted seeds for today’s conservatism. Coincidentally, some of the…
New York CNN — YouTube is cracking down on content related to gambling as sports betting and other online prediction markets have taken off in the United States. The platform announced Tuesday it will no longer allow content that directs users to “unapproved” gambling websites through links, images, text, logos or verbal references. YouTube defines unapproved gambling sites as those that don’t meet local legal requirements and haven’t been reviewed by YouTube or parent company Google. The update builds on YouTube’s existing policy prohibiting linking to external sites that violate its rules, including unapproved gambling sites. “We’ve strengthened our policies…
CNN — Donald Trump just took the biggest gamble of his young second presidency. His hammer-blow 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico that hit at midnight dealt a fresh shock to an economy showing alarming signs of slowing growth and rising inflation – a perilous mix for any president. Trump also doubled an additional tariff on all Chinese imports to 20%, in a trio of decisions that sent stocks – a cherished metric of his own performance – tumbling. The timing was inauspicious, before Trump makes a joint address to Congress Tuesday evening that will be watched by a nation…

CNN — When the Trump administration abruptly terminated ten thousand foreign assistance contracts and grants last week, it ended funding for programs around the world – including those that had been granted waivers by the State Department to continue their lifesaving work. Millions of people may be affected by the cancelation of the funding, sources said, noting that it exacerbates the impact already felt from the dismantling of USAID and the sweeping foreign aid freeze and stop work orders put in place in late January. Although some had been restored, such as for production of emergency food products at one…
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky was “a war leader,” who everyone should support. “Russia is the aggressor. Zelensky is a war leader whose country has been invaded. And we should all be supporting him and not fawning over Putin,” Starmer said during a UK parliamentary debate. He was responding to a question from Nigel Farage, the right-wing member of parliament who is a close ally of US President Donald Trump. While Starmer stopped short of directly criticizing Trump for his treatment of Zelensky during the Ukrainian leader’s visit to the White House…
