The University of Colorado posted video Thursday of reigning Heisman Trophy winner and new Jacksonville Jaguars star Travis Hunter at his college graduation.
NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe noted that Hunter is in the midst of a whirlwind couple of weeks, as the Jags took him second overall in the 2025 NFL draft on April 24, he gets his college degree Thursday and he will attend Jaguars rookie minicamp on Friday.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg pointed out Hunter thrived both on the field and in the classroom during his time at Colorado, as evidenced by his status as a two-time member of the Academic All-American First Team.
After spending his first collegiate year playing at FCS Jackson State under Deion Sanders, Hunter followed Coach Prime to Colorado for the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
Hunter garnered a ton of attention during his first season with the Buffaloes due to his ability to play both wide receiver and cornerback at a high level, but he truly broke out in 2024.
Starting all 13 of Colorado’s games, Hunter recorded 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus a rushing touchdown, and he added 36 tackles, four interceptions and 11 passes defended.
Hunter went on to win the Heisman Trophy as the best player in college football, and he was also widely viewed as the best overall player in the 2025 NFL draft when he entered.
Miami quarterback Cam Ward went No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans due to their need for a franchise quarterback, making Hunter the prize at No. 2.
The Cleveland Browns owned the second overall pick and could have taken Hunter, but they instead agreed to a trade with the Jaguars, who sent the No. 5 overall pick in 2025, a first-round pick in 2026 and more to Cleveland for the second pick.
Jacksonville used the pick on Hunter, landing a potential superstar at both wideout and corner in a single player.
The Jaguars have missed the playoffs in back-to-back years and have reached the postseason only once in the past seven campaigns, but Hunter is the type of player who could potentially turn the franchise around.
Hunter played a big role in helping Colorado go from a one-win team in 2022 to a nine-win team in 2024, and it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he can make a similar impact in Jacksonville.
